In 1972, Paul Simon released the classic single “Mother and Child Reunion” – his first new song without collaboration with Art Garfunkel. It peaked at No. 4 in the US. The title of the song according to legend was inspired by a chicken and egg dish he spotted on the menu at a Chinese restaurant.
The song was recorded at Dynamic Sounds Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, with Jimmy Cliff’s band. Guitarist Huks (“Hux”) Brown and bass guitarist Jackie Jackson were also long-time members of Toots & the Maytals. Cissy Houston – Whitney Houston’s mother – sang background vocals on the recording.
