Electric scooters have been around for quite awhile but it’s only recently that their designs have matured enough for them to be considered a serious form of transportation.
They are eco-friendly and they pack away small and are ideal for transporting or for stowing rather than paying for expensive parking in a big city and they’re better for the planet too. What more could you want?
Electric scooters use a lot less carbon than cars do and while they use a bit more carbon to produce than a gasoline vehicle, they swiftly pay it back when they’re on the road.
A French study also found that they were a net benefit to the environment. So, keep that in mind as you peruse our 10 best electric scooter brands!
You’re not just investing in transport but you’re also investing in the future of the planet.
Best Electric Scooters
Unagi Model One
We found this scooter to be a top performer in our tests. It runs great on one engine and it’s much faster than many other models but if you switch over to two engines, you get more power but at the cost of battery life.
We found the controls to be very intuitive and we liked the bright and bold display they use.
If you want to try before you buy, they have rental programs in New York and Los Angeles for a low monthly cost.
You can find the Unagi Model One online.
GoTrax XR Ultra Electric Scooter
With a maximum speed of about 15 mph this isn’t going to win any prizes for speed but it’s a low-cost mid-range scooter with plenty of value for money to be had.
Though it will only carry a rider that weighs up to 220 lbs. which may be a deal breaker for some.
You can find the GoTrax XR Ultra Electric Scooter online.
Swagtron High Speed Electric Scooter
This is a surprisingly affordable scooter, and it can carry a fairly hefty 320 lbs. which means you don’t need to be “child-sized” to get the most out of it.
With a top speed of 18 mph, you can run around town very effectively on the Swagtron. However, we would note that it’s not the best hill climber of the bunch.
You can find the Swagtron High Speed Electric Scooter online.
Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter
This totally foldable design is perfect for those who have to catch a bus or a train to work before needing to cover some distance on either end between the office and home.
Most importantly, it’s light enough to carry when you need to move it around.
You can find the Glion Dolly Foldable Lightweight Adult Electric Scooter online.
Razor E100 Kid’s Electric Scooter
If you want your kids to get the benefit of an electric scooter, this nifty model is what they need.
This Razor has a low top speed of 10 mph but it still has no problem getting up hills.
The controls are super simple and it’s very easy to stay out of trouble on it.
You can find the Razor E100 Kid’s Electric Scooter online.
Razor Pocket Mod Miniature Euro Electric Scooter – Vapor
If you want something a bit different then this scooter looks like a Vespa bike-style scooter and yes, you can sit down on it.
It runs at 15 mph and only takes up to 170 lbs. but at this price?
That’s an absolute steal and if your kids don’t like to stand they’ll love it.
You can find the Razor Pocket Mod Miniature Euro Electric Scooter – Vapor online.
Nanrobot D4+ 2.0
This isn’t a cheap option, but it is a solid and much faster scooter than most.
The D4+ 2.0 is a luxury scooter with the facility to go 40+ miles on a single charge and to do so at 40 mph! The LCD display is very informative too.
You can find the Nanrobot D4+ 2.0 at Roadrunner Scooters online.
Razor Ecosmart Metro Electric Scooter
Another seated option from Razor, this time accommodating up to 220 lbs. of ride and it can run for up to 12 miles on a charge.
It’s very comfortable and reasonably priced too.
You can find the Razor Ecosmart Metro Electric Scooter online.
Levy Electric Scooter
This Levy scooter is one of the most fun ride experiences that we had in our tests.
The suspension is amazing, and it can run for 15 miles before it needs a charge.
It’s one of the very few models that connects the breaks to the taillights as they should be.
You can find the Levy Electric Scooter on the Levy Website.
Apollo Explore
With a maximum speed of 31 mph the Apollo Explore is no slouch but it’s not cheap either.
It will go 34 miles on a single charge though and it’s very lightweight for this class of scooter, but we still wouldn’t want to carry it around very often. 52 lbs. are hard work.
You can find the Apollo Explore at the Apollo website.
