Living off-grid is becoming a very popular choice, in the post-Covid era more and more people are choosing not to be reliant on the government and private enterprise to be able to live their lives.

But how do you earn a living when you go off-grid? After all, solar panels won’t pay for themselves, right?

12 Great Ways To Make Money When You’re Living Off-Grid

Run An Internet Business

Run An Internet Business

This could be a whole article in its own right, there are so many ways to make a living online that we couldn’t list them all if we tried.

But you can run a blog, design websites, program applications, write e-books, and much more and you can do it all from a laptop running off a solar panel in your cabin in the woods.

If you’re going off the grid then you are going to be doing some homesteading, and that means you’ll either be growing food or raising livestock and probably, both.

Once you’re providing enough to feed you and your family, it’s time to start making a surplus which can then be sold at local farmer’s markets or even on Facebook marketplace.

Rent Out Cabins

This one requires that you have a fairly big patch of land but in our experience, people who go off-grid remotely often can afford a lot of acreage as it’s not hugely valuable to anyone else.

If that’s the case, you can easily throw up some log cabins and rent them out to tourists using Airbnb or even via local travel agents.

Sell Hiking And Camping Adventures

Hiking

You don’t need as much land for this, though you do need access to pleasant places that your visitors can hike through and tents are cheaper than cabins.

If you choose an off-grid location near a National Park this can easily become a booming business without very much effort on your part.

Sell Hunting And Fishing Adventures

This is assuming that you’re living somewhere with nearby hunting and fishing opportunities, but if you do then organizing tours which involve hunting and fishing is easy.

Hunting provides a great but seasonal income and fishing tends to be popular year round though as you’d expect, it might not be as popular in the cold Winter months.

Sure, the catering logistics might be a little complicated at first but if you can master this, there are always people looking to celebrate something, all year round.

Get Into Aquaponics

Aquaponics

Aquaponics is a clever extension of homesteading where you build a closed system that has you growing vegetables in water, and the vegetables help to feed the fish that live in that water.

You can then either eat or sell the fish or vegetables once they’re fully grown and probably, in fact, do a bit of both. Eat what you need and sell the surplus.
