In On Fire By Naomi Klein celebrated author and environmentalist her case for a Green New Deal.
This is a collection of essays which examine two things – the impact that humanity is having on our planet right now and the potential for change before it’s too late.
“We Are The Wildfire”
At its core, On Fire, is a call to action and it encourages every single person who is concerned about the future of humanity to stand up and be counted and it begins with school children across the world doing just that.
The School Strike for Climate was the first example of mass activism at all levels of society in favour of the environment.
She takes the mass movement and hones in on its unofficial leader Greta Thunberg and her powerful arguments for what must be done.
We’ve recently featured Naomi in our People We Love series
A Global Crisis
Happily, while the majority of cases in the book are found within the West, Klein does not shy away from acknowledging that the climate crisis is not solely a Western issue.
Klein’s On Fire stresses that it’s a global emergency and she highlights the roles of nations like China and India as well as the US, the UK, etc.
A Higher Purpose For On Fire By Naomi Klein
Klein believes that a Green New Deal would help the world come together around some shared values and allow us to cut through the barriers that stand in the way of solving the climate crisis.
Whether you agree (or not), On Fire is great food for thought and as always Klein’s writing is a pleasure to read. For more info you can check out Naomi’s website.
