In my research to answer What Do Vegans Eat For Breakfast? I did my usual in-depth research!
I consulted some of my favorite vegan blogs, Googled around a bit, then finally emailed my sister-in-law and a few well known vegans I happen to have on speed dial with the Subject Line: “What Do Vegans Eat For Breakfast?”
Well, judging from what I found and the responses I got back, it’s not all warm, mushy grains and smoothie bowls for vegans in the morning. My research reveals that breakfast is actually a wonderful time to be a vegan!
It’s fair to say that veganism, vegan foods and the whole vegan lifestyle has gone much more mainstream recently.
So, what vegans eat for breakfast is an important topic that bears some investigation.
My mother always said that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. And that goes for vegans as well.
Here’s our top seven favorite, best vegan breakfast recipes as recommended by a variety of vegans I know personally. ( JUST eggs can be used in many of these recipes )
Vegan Breakfast Recipes
Vegan Breakfast Quesadilla
Right off the bat, let’s go Mexcan! Check out this scrumptious little recipe from Vegan Huggs (home of deliciously kind recipes).
We’re big fans of Melissa Huggins blog and inspired by her origin story. What an inspiration!
Melissa has been at it for over 10 years and she’s been featured by some major internet publications such as Buzzfeed, Huff Post, Live Kindly, and many more.
Blueberry Oatmeal Waffles
This recipe is from Isa Moskowitz’s Post Punk Kitchen vegan blog. She has just published a new book called I Can Cook Vegan.
Isa is a renaissance vegan – she publishes cookbooks, owns two restaurants, writes short stories and still has time to make Tofuballs with her family. She is the real deal.
Vegan Breakfast Sandwich
This vegan breakfast sandwich recipe from I Love Vegan is an inexpensive choice full of flavor. The I Love Vegan blog was started by Brittany and William and is a vegan lifestyle blog focused on delicious, wholesome homestyle recipes.
Brittany says: “Thankfully, making your own breakfast sandwich at home is shockingly easy, and just as satisfying and delicious as any fast food sandwich.
Not only can you make your sandwich completely vegan (Yes!) and customized exactly to your preferences, you can load it up with as many healthy ingredients as you want!”
We love this recipe at Whole People but we add one extra ingredient: Vegan Cheese!
Vegan Breakfast Casserole
This vegan breakfast casserole from Emilie Eats is all kinds of delicious!
Emilie says: “This breakfast casserole recipe is an idea I’ve been dreaming up for MONTHS now. With the holiday season fast approaching (very fast, actually), it seemed like the perfect time to finally test and share it. Because what are the holidays if not 15 family members crammed into one house doing nothing but eating and laughing?”
Vegan English Breakfast
This version of a vegan full English breakfast from Delish is a wonderful approximation of it’s meaty inspiration. Vegan style.
The traditional full English breakfast is typically a huge fry-up with multiple non-plant-based meats – bacon & sausage – as well as eggs so it’s not the most vegan-friendly breakfast choice.
In lieu of eggs there is a delicious spicy scrambled tofu and the meats are replaced with their favorite vegan versions of bacon and sausage. I thoroughly enjoyed this breakfast.
Vegan Breakfast Tacos
These vegan breakfast tacos from Elephantastic Vegan are fantastic! So delicious!
Bianca from Elephantastic Vegan is all about comfort food.
Check out her latest cookbook aptly titled Cravings Made Vegan: 50 Plant-Based Recipes for Your Comfort Food Favorites.
Easy Vegan Breakfast Skillet
This Easy Vegan Breakfast Skillet from Deryn at Running on Real Food is a great plant-based breakfast option.
Deryn says: “There isn’t much too this quick breakfast skillet. Chop some veggies, throw them in a pan, fry it up and serve! To make it more substantial, add some roasted or boiled cubed potatoes or sweet potatoes. This recipe is completely customizable so go ahead and use any veggies you like or whatever you have on hand.“
